This beautiful smile is one of the reasons I started the Multicultural Educational Exhibits program over 21 years ago! I wanted to see our children light up as they learned important history lessons about African American inventors who changed the world. The contributions haven't stopped. However, I think we are in a challenging time and must be mindful of how to continue to share and build the confidence of all children but especially our children of color. So often they are left behind when the contributions of their brilliant minds are must needed.  Today I am starting a new series of contributions by modern day STEM experts. Please check in to learn more!

Is this a future scientist?

Our Second Blog Entry

Today I am featuring Dr. Kizzmekia S Corbert.  Dr. Kizzmekia has been the lead scientist researching the Covid-19 vaccine for the Moderna company. She was first introduced to the world by Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergy & Infectious Diseases. What a grand honor! Dr. Kizzmekia has been working on the SARS and MERS research for ten years. Dr. Kizzmekia is an immunologist.  She has een interested in how nature works since her high school years in Hillsboro, North Carolina when she did research at the University of North Carolina. This is a very interesting field that requires a long-term dedication to research and study. We have a MEP honor high school graduate student who is going to complete a two-week internship at the Centers of Disease Control in Atlanta, Georgia. If you live near a university and your high school has an interest, this is a great method to help your child to investigate their field of interest.

See you next time! Remember to inspire, encourage and empower your child to be their best student in the pursuit of their education! A video with Dr. Kizzmekia S. Corbert:HTTPs://youtube.com/clip/Ugkx5j61eJMYs1vtpiD4ebVrhAI6eXsbTiRC
